Washington DC has more architecturally significant marble than almost any other American city. The Capitol, the Supreme Court, the White House interiors, the Lincoln and Jefferson memorials, hundreds of government office building lobbies, major museum galleries, embassy residences, and private homes throughout the District — DC runs on marble. Rose Restoration has been maintaining and restoring marble across the city since 1984.

Why DC Marble Is Different
Two things make DC marble work distinctive: the sheer concentration of architecturally significant marble, and the operational complexity of restoring it. Most of this marble is in buildings with federal security protocols, preservation oversight, or high-profile use patterns that require careful scheduling and proven craft.
The marble inventory itself is a mix of American (Vermont, Georgia, Tennessee) and imported (Italian Carrara, Calacatta, Greek, Spanish) stone — installed across more than a century of federal and private construction. Much of it needs periodic restoration to maintain its intended finish. Very little of it should ever be replaced.
Where We Restore Marble in DC
- Luxury hotels. DC’s hospitality sector — Four Seasons, Ritz-Carlton, Jefferson, Willard, Mayflower, and others — uses marble extensively in lobbies, corridors, guest bathrooms, and event spaces. See our Four Seasons Hotel DC case study.
- Federal buildings. Cabinet department headquarters, congressional office buildings, federal courthouses, and independent agency offices all feature significant marble. We work under GSA and agency-specific contracts with security clearance protocols.
- Museums and cultural institutions. Smithsonian museums, the National Gallery of Art, and private cultural institutions. See our Smithsonian case study and National Gallery case study.
- Embassy and diplomatic residences. Many embassies and diplomatic compounds feature high-end marble in public and private spaces.
- Condo and co-op lobbies. Upscale DC residential buildings in Kalorama, Foggy Bottom, Georgetown, and elsewhere have original marble lobbies needing periodic restoration.
- Private residences. High-end DC homes in Georgetown, Kalorama, Wesley Heights, Forest Hills, and throughout the city — marble foyers, kitchen countertops, master bathrooms, and custom features.
- Hospitality event venues. Private clubs, historic homes operating as event spaces, and special-use marble surfaces.
