Marble & Concrete Restoration Technician
Fairfax, VA, with jobsites across Washington DC, Northern Virginia and Maryland | Full time | $18.00 to $22.00 per hour
Rose restores marble, stone, terrazzo and concrete surfaces in buildings that are still open. A hotel lobby, a condominium entrance, an office building corridor, a federal facility. We grind, hone, polish, clean, seal and repair the surface that is already there rather than covering it or replacing it.
No experience required. We train you, and you are paid while you learn. You will not know how to do this on your first day and we do not expect you to. Marble and concrete restoration is a narrow trade with far more buildings that need it than people trained to do it.
This is physical work on active jobsites. We would rather tell you that now than have you find out in week two.
What you will do
- Run floor machines, grinders, polishers, burnishers and hand tools under the direction of a crew leader.
- Move through the grinding, honing and polishing sequence on marble, concrete, terrazzo and other stone surfaces.
- Mix, apply and clean up restoration chemicals, sealers and cleaning products according to the instructions you are given.
- Set up and break down the work area, including containment, signage, cords, hoses and water management, so the building stays safe and open while you work.
- Load, unload and transport equipment and materials between the shop and the jobsite.
- Protect the client’s property. Walls, baseboards, elevators, furniture, adjacent finishes.
- Clean and maintain equipment at the end of every job so the next crew can use it.
- Report problems to your crew leader as soon as you see them rather than at the end of the day.
What you need
- Reliable transportation to our Fairfax shop or to an assigned jobsite.
- Ability to consistently start early, including some days before 6:00 AM.
- Willingness to travel to jobsites throughout Washington DC, Northern Virginia and Maryland.
- Ability to perform sustained physical work: standing, walking, kneeling, bending, stairs, and lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
- Willingness to work around dust, water, noise, restoration chemicals and heavy equipment, using the protective equipment provided.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States. Rose Restoration does not provide visa sponsorship for this role.
Helpful, not required
- Previous construction, restoration, flooring, concrete, janitorial or general labor experience.
- Experience running floor machines, grinders or polishers.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean record, if you want to be considered for driving a company vehicle.
- English or Spanish. Our field crews work in both.
Schedule
Full time, Monday through Friday, typically starting early. Some jobs run at night or on weekends, because a hotel lobby or an office building cannot always close during business hours. Night and weekend work is scheduled in advance, not sprung on you. Jobsite locations change; you will not report to the same building every day.
Compensation
$18.00 to $22.00 per hour. Pay moves with skill, not with time served. When you can run the sequence on your own, you earn more.
Benefits and compensation
Rose Restoration offers health, dental and vision insurance, paid time off, paid holidays, and a 401(k). Overtime is paid at time and a half for hours worked over 40 in a week, and training is provided and paid.
Where this job goes
Rose promotes from inside. Technician, then Lead Technician, then Crew Leader, who owns a job: scope, crew, schedule, and the client’s opinion of how it went. From there: operations, project management, estimating, or equipment. Several of our crew leaders started as technicians with no stone experience.
