Why Historic Bronze Is Not a Polishing Job
The goal of historic bronze restoration is not shine. It is the original darkened patina the architects intended, restored evenly and then protected. Stripping bronze bright would erase a century of intended character; leaving a failing finish in place lets corrosion work underneath. The craft sits between those mistakes.
The Work
- Ten historic bronze exterior doors, both sides. Each door was degreased and cleaned, the failing existing finish removed mechanically and chemically, the original darkened patina restored through industry-standard oxidation, hand-buffed to an even tone, and protected with two coats of clear lacquer.
- Brass hardware on five door sets. Handles, kickplates, hinges, and decorative trim cleaned of tarnish and oxidation, polished, and protected, on both interior and exterior faces.
