Historic Metal Preservation

For National Register and historic-district metalwork, we follow preservation-grade methodology:

Patina preservation. Original historic patina is protected — not removed in favor of “new-looking” finish.
Period-appropriate chemistry. Modern aggressive cleaners don’t belong on 18th-century brass or iron. We use conservation-grade chemistry only.
Minimal-intervention philosophy. Stabilize and preserve original metal. Repair only what’s necessary.
Documentation. Before/during/after photography for preservation files.
Preservation-office coordination. We work with Alexandria’s Old & Historic Alexandria District Board of Architectural Review when required.
