What Is Marble Armor? Everything You Need to Know About Stone Protection Film

Marble Armor is a proprietary invisible 10-year protection system for marble, travertine, limestone, and other acid-sensitive natural stone — installed by Rose Restoration across Washington DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia.

What is Marble Armor?
Marble Armor is an invisible protective layer applied to marble, travertine, limestone, and other acid-sensitive natural stone surfaces. It resists etching from acidic spills (lemon, wine, vinegar, coffee, tomato), staining from oils and pigments, and heat up to about 300°F. The layer is installed flush with the stone edges, invisible in daily use, fully removable, and warranted for 10 years on residential applications.
How is Marble Armor different from sealer?
Sealers (impregnating sealers) absorb into porous stone and repel water and oil — they prevent staining but do NOT prevent etching from acids. Marble Armor adds a protective layer above the stone surface that prevents both etching AND staining, including from acidic substances that sealers cannot stop. For polished marble in high-use areas (kitchens, bars, bathrooms), Marble Armor delivers protection sealers cannot.
Where is Marble Armor installed?
Rose Restoration installs Marble Armor across the DC metro in residential kitchens, bathrooms, bar tops, and entertaining areas; commercial hotel guestrooms, bar tops, restaurant counters, and country club surfaces; and other settings where polished marble or other acid-sensitive natural stone needs daily-use protection. Introducing Marble Armor: Advanced Stone Protection

Marble Armor is a clear, ultra-thin protection film designed specifically for natural stone surfaces. Applied by trained technicians, it creates an invisible barrier that prevents etching, scratching, and staining — the three most common forms of marble damage — without changing the look or feel of your stone.

How Marble Armor Works

Marble Armor uses advanced polymer film technology originally developed for automotive paint protection. The film is custom-cut and applied directly to the stone surface, where it bonds seamlessly. It is:

  • Optically clear — does not alter the stone’s color, pattern, or finish
  • Self-healing — minor scratches in the film disappear with gentle heat
  • Chemical resistant — protects against acids, wine, citrus, and cleaning products that etch marble
  • Removable — can be removed and replaced without damaging the stone beneath

Where to Apply Marble Armor

Kitchen Countertops

Kitchen marble countertops are the most common application. Cooking acids, wine, coffee, and daily use create constant etching risk. Marble Armor eliminates this concern, letting you enjoy your marble countertops without anxiety.

Bathroom Vanities

Toothpaste, facial products, perfumes, and cleaning products all contain acids that etch marble. Marble Armor protects vanity tops from daily bathroom use.

Bar Tops and Entertaining Areas

Wine, cocktails, and citrus are the enemies of polished marble. Marble Armor is ideal for bar areas, butler’s pantries, and dining surfaces.

Commercial Surfaces

Hotel check-in desks, restaurant host stands, and reception counters benefit from Marble Armor’s invisible protection in high-use environments.

Marble Armor vs. Traditional Sealers

Traditional penetrating sealers protect against staining but do nothing to prevent etching or scratching. Marble Armor provides comprehensive protection:

  • Etching: Sealer — no protection. Marble Armor — full protection.
  • Staining: Sealer — good protection. Marble Armor — excellent protection.
  • Scratching: Sealer — no protection. Marble Armor — good protection.
  • Durability: Sealer — reapply every 1–3 years. Marble Armor — lasts 5–10 years.

The Installation Process

  1. Surface preparation: The stone is professionally cleaned and any existing damage is repaired
  2. Template creation: Precise measurements and templates are made for each surface
  3. Film cutting: The film is custom-cut to match your exact countertop dimensions, including cutouts for sinks, faucets, and cooktops
  4. Application: The film is carefully applied using specialized techniques to eliminate bubbles and ensure perfect adhesion
  5. Finishing: Edges are sealed and the installation is inspected for quality

Installation typically takes 2–4 hours for a standard kitchen countertop.

Cost of Marble Armor

Marble Armor installation costs vary based on the surface area and complexity, but typical pricing ranges from $15–$30 per square foot. For a standard kitchen countertop (30–50 sq ft), expect to invest $500–$1,500.

Considering that a single etch mark repair costs $200–$400, Marble Armor pays for itself quickly in avoided damage.
