In January 2026 the general contractor on a Washington DC museum renovation awarded Rose Restoration the terrazzo restoration scope. In a museum, the floor is part of the exhibit environment, and the standard is set accordingly.
Museum renovation flooring carries constraints most commercial jobs never meet. Dust control is absolute, because collections and casework share the building with the work. Vibration and equipment routing are planned around exhibit spaces. And the finished floor has to meet a design intent, not just a gloss number, because curators and architects both sign off on it.
The restoration sequence is the proven one: grind past wear and patching, repair cracks and voids with color matched fill so old damage disappears into the field, then hone, polish, and densify to the specified finish. On a museum schedule the sequencing is coordinated with the GC so the floor work lands in the right window relative to casework and finishes.
Washington’s museums, memorials, and institutional buildings are a core part of Rose’s portfolio, from Smithsonian properties to the National Gallery of Art. Terrazzo, marble, and stone in civic buildings is work Rose has done for decades, under GCs and for institutions directly.
