About this video
Rose Restoration was contacted by the C&P Telephone Building — a historic condominium near the U.S. Capitol — to restore the original marble mosaic floors in the vestibule, lobby, steps, and landings. Decades of foot traffic and poorly-done prior repairs had left sections deteriorated, cracked, or mismatched.
What you’ll see in the video
- Removed every damaged, previously-patched, or loose piece of mosaic marble
- Hand-cut replacement pieces to match the original size, veining, and color
- Reset the new tesserae into the existing pattern using period-appropriate methods
- Honed, refinished, and polished the entire floor to a uniform finish
Why it matters
Historic DC buildings rarely have documentation for their original floor materials. Matching a 90-year-old marble mosaic requires judgment calls on stone selection, grain direction, and joint width — the kind of craft Rose Restoration has developed over 47 years and 400+ commercial projects.
