A black marble table in Chevy Chase, Maryland, brought to us through the owner’s interior designer. We repaired its cracks with a color-matched epoxy resin, honed out the etch marks and scratches, and polished and sealed the top. Early 2022.

What we did, and why
- Cracks repaired with a color-matching epoxy resin.
- Clean, hone, polish and seal. Etch marks and fine scratches live in the surface. Honing removes that layer evenly, and polishing brings back the deep gloss black marble is chosen for.
The scope changed, and the price came down
The first estimate allowed for drilling and installing four or five support pins along with the crack repair. After a closer look the scope was revised: the cracks were repaired without pins, and the revised price was lower. A good assessment should be able to take work out as well as add it.
What a similar table can learn
Black marble shows every etch ring and scratch, which makes it look worse than it is. Those marks are surface damage, and honing and polishing remove them completely. Cracks are a separate repair. They blend in once filled, but they are not erased. More on what repair can and cannot do: marble table repair.

Yes. On this Chevy Chase table the etches and scratches were honed out, and the top was polished and sealed.
