Preserving History: Rose Restoration’s Work on America’s Most Iconic Government Buildings
When you walk into a government building, you aren’t just stepping on stone floors or leaning on marble walls—you’re stepping into history. These spaces hold the stories of leaders, lawmakers, and historic moments that have shaped our nation. At Rose Restoration, we are proud to play a role in preserving and maintaining these iconic environments.
For more than 40 years, our team has provided expert stone, terrazzo, concrete, and metal restoration services across Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. Our portfolio includes some of the most prestigious projects in the country, where we’ve been entrusted with safeguarding architectural treasures that represent the very heart of American heritage.
The White House: Restoring the People’s House
In September 2019, Rose Restoration completed a marble tile floor restoration project at the White House. Our work focused on revitalizing worn marble flooring, bringing back the reflective brilliance and elegance expected of this landmark.
This project was more than maintenance—it was about ensuring that one of the most photographed, toured, and symbolically important buildings in the world continued to embody dignity and excellence.
The U.S. Capitol and General Assembly Projects
While we often work behind the scenes, our craftsmanship supports the institutions at the core of American democracy. From granite and marble restoration in security stations to wall regrouting and repairs, our projects for government buildings such as the State Department and Capitol-adjacent facilities ensure these spaces remain structurally sound and visually stunning.
Every crack repaired and every tile polished is a step toward preserving spaces where critical decisions are made daily. These projects require not only technical expertise but also a deep respect for the historical and cultural significance of the materials we’re working with.
Blair House: The President’s Guest Residence
Just across Pennsylvania Avenue from the White House sits Blair House, known as “the President’s Guest House.” Hosting foreign dignitaries and state guests, this historic building demands a level of sophistication and care that matches its diplomatic role.
Our team was entrusted with restoring and polishing Belgium Black Marble in its Mezzanine Gallery, a delicate task requiring precision and artistry. The results honored the building’s historic elegance while ensuring durability for decades of continued use.
The Wilson Building: A Seat of Local Power
The John A. Wilson Building, home to the offices of the D.C. Mayor and Council, is another site where Rose Restoration’s expertise has made an impact. In 2018, we performed North Lobby stone cleaning, breathing new life into this heavily trafficked space.
As the heart of local governance in D.C., the Wilson Building represents democracy at the community level, and our restoration work ensures that it continues to inspire both residents and visitors.
Other Prestigious Projects
Our government portfolio also includes high-profile work such as:
Tingey House – Navy Yard: Interior & exterior masonry restoration at the official residence of the Chief of Naval Operations.
Old Post Office Building: Large-scale stone restoration project, revitalizing this landmark later transformed into a high-profile hotel.
HUD Headquarters: North Lobby stone stripping and sealing, ensuring longevity in a high-traffic government space.
Sherman Park Monument: Terrazzo restoration to preserve this public historic feature.
Inter-American Development Bank: Ongoing annual stone floor maintenance, ensuring surfaces remain pristine year after year.
These projects demonstrate our ability to balance technical excellence with historical preservation, whether we’re working on 18th-century marble or modern terrazzo installations.
Why Government Clients Trust Rose Restoration
Government projects demand more than just skill—they require:
Security Clearance & Reliability: Working in sensitive environments with the utmost professionalism.
Respect for History: Understanding the cultural weight of the materials we restore.
Precision & Durability: Delivering results that honor architectural heritage while standing up to modern use.
Our track record across government agencies and historic buildings reflects not just our craftsmanship but also the trust placed in us by some of the most important institutions in the nation.
Preserving the Past, Serving the Future
Every project we complete—whether in the White House, the Capitol, or a local municipal building—carries with it a responsibility to the future. By restoring marble, granite, terrazzo, and masonry, we’re ensuring that the spaces that tell America’s story remain beautiful, safe, and functional for generations to come.
